| While you can expect to see the white-robed, black-haired spooks native to most J-Horror films, there are a few ghosts that are distinct from the general mass of angry, vengeful souls. We'll detail them here, as well as the more common ghosts too.
+ Onryō - Your typical black haired, pale skinned, white-robed spooks. They are just about everywhere and can be expected to be encountered at all times. Driven to hurt and distinctly malevolent, you're going to want to keep your red tape on you at all times in case you need to seal up an area from all of them.
+ Yurei - Strictly speaking, all Japanese spirits are Yurei, but here we will use them to mean the spirits identical to Onryō but peaceful. Yurei are likely to be spotted everywhere and may cluster and sap energy and heat, but they don't mean you harm like the violent spirits do.
+ Nekomata - A large cat with a forked tail that haunts the fourth floor of the apartments. While it might walk on all fours, it can also comfortably walk on its hind legs and even fly. It may enter unsealed fourth-floor apartments to eat sleeping inhabitants, and will chase people down the corridor to the lift or stairwell.
+ The Crows - Found all over the place. They will alight on window frames, rooftops, walls, branches of trees - anywhere - and croak loudly from time to time. They generally save as an advance warning of a monster or spook appearing, and have been known to help people when dealing with the scarecrow or the Teke Teke... if they've given them corn from the store, that is.
+ Wallfaders - Appear to be nothing more than a water stain on the wall or ceiling that wasn't there before. But the stain spreads. Walk too close to it and a pair of chalk white arms will manifest and pull you against the wall, holding you there until someone breaks you free of them or you're able to break free on your own. Having red tape on your doors and windows won't keep them out.
+ Woman under the bed - The ghost of a former apartment tenant who was murdered but tried to hide from her abusive lover underneath the bed. Her spirit is trapped in those terrifying last moments. She can appear in any apartment, but always late at night, shaking the bed from underneath and waking the sleeper. She sees the face of her murderer in anyone brave enough to peek under the bed, and will attempt to claw at their faces in an attempt to protect herself.
+Plumber's Nightmare - Finding strands of long black hair in the drains is a common (almost daily) occurrence. Fill the tub or sink too full of water and you'll realize why. A female ghost who looks like countless others in the apartment with white skin and long black hair. She won't go away until the water that she crawled out of is drained. She'll try to drown you in the water if she gets her claws into you. Use caution.
+Ryo - One of the few ghosts who won't seek to hurt you. Ryo is the spirit of a Japanese boy, around the age of six. He'll never try to enter an apartment uninvited, but he will follow you through the hallways. Whenever he passes a window, he'll pause and look in the direction of the hospital. It's believed that he died there, but chose to return to the apartments where he and his family once lived. He has a fondness for females and "Nee-san" is one of the few words that he ever actually speaks.
+Shadow People - Ghosts that take the shape of apartment tenants, but only the shape. They're like a solid black silhouette, making them sometimes unrecognizable. The only features they posses are their eyes, which they will open wide and suddenly. To look into one's eyes will make you feel ice cold, terrified, and sick at your stomach. They're the most potent at night, when everything is in shadow.
+Kuchisake-onna - The Slit Mouth Woman. She is randomly encountered when walking around the town. Wearing a surgical mask, she will approach people and ask them if she is pretty. She will continue to repeat the question and continuously appear in front of people who do not answer with 'yes' or 'no'. When answered, she will rip off the mask to reveal a mouth that has been slit open to the ears and still dripping blood. "How about now?", she'll ask, brandishing a pair of scissors. Answer 'yes' and she'll slit your mouth from ear to ear. Answer 'no' and she'll plunge the scissors into your throat. She cannot be run from and will appear in front of people if they turn away from her. Answering 'you're average' might puzzle her but... do you really want to risk it?
+Teke Teke - A woman who has had her legs traumatically severed from her body. Encountered randomly around the town, but sometimes in apartment rooms. She will crawl at amazing speeds towards a person when she has caught sight of them with the intent of cutting them in half with a scythe. Named for the tell-tale sound her clattering elbows make on the ground - tek tek, tek tek...
+Tenome - The ghost of an old beggar man who, blind in life, was robbed and killed one night. In death, he has grown eyes on his hands and walks with them outstretched, looking for his murderer. Unfortunately, he has no idea what they look like, and will attack anyone he sees. Tenome is ecountered randomly in the town and never the apartments.
+Ghost Children - Sullen, quiet spirits who will watch you with accusatory, empty eyes as you walk through the town. Give them a toy from the arcade, and they'll help you get away from Tenome or the Slit Mouth Woman.
+The Fox Spirit - Elusive and sly, the fox spirit of the shrine doesn't often appear to people. She's just as likely to tease you, hurt you, or help you out. Bring her a gift and she might behave more kindly towards you.
+Jorōgumo - The madam of the love hotel. She's very charming and easy to trust. Enter her premises, though, and run the risk of being a snack for her.
With the exception of the Fox Spirit and the Jorōgumo, who will be played by mods if needed, please feel free to feature these creatures anywhere in your posts! |
